You're right about him being pointless. In the early part of the show a lot of the characters were quite one dimensional and weak, apart from Walt, but they've all been fleshed out and developed since then. Walt Jr is the big exception he's just there to be annoying sometimes and then he just disappears for episodes.

I've been reading The Woman in White. About a third through and liking it a lot.

All I really care about is good endings for Jesse and Hank. Not really sure if either is possible though.

Or I hope he goes to prison and kills himself on his next birthday when no one gives him any bacon.

I hope he suffers more than just dying. I hope Skylar and Walt Jr turn on him and I hope he loses all his money and then dies alone in a prison cell.

Doc Martin I remember watching a few episode back when it was on. I just can't Imagine it as a series someone would download / get the box set and work through though. Seems like it really should only be watched at 9pm on a Sunday evening like I'm sure it was intended. I've wanted to watch Luther for a long time but keep forgetting about it. When it first came out I was interested just because of Stringer Bell but that plus all the great things I've heard about it mean I really should get a move on and watch it. I've watched the first two seasons of Northern Exposure. They are only 7 episodes each but it looks like the next one goes up to the full US 20+ job. I like it a lot and love the balance it has between being a fairly regular show and some very odd and unusual events which happen too.

It's not silly at all. It's 100% correct that Spurs have the better squad. They still might not finish in the top 4 because they are spurs and that's how it works but they've put together a great group of players. If they can gel quickly they should have a great season.

The big signing Gunners fans have been waiting for. Eto'o to Chelsea is exciting. I mean exciting if he still knows or cares how to play football. With the hundreds of attacking midfielders chelsea have who will be passing hte the ball he's sure to knock in a few.

Yeah the cost of travelling back for visits is a problem for me. I do okay with money, salaries aren't high here but neither is the cost of living. When I'm back in Scotland I just seem to hemorrhage money. It's also a real pain that I can't fly direct to Aberdeen from here. I know compared to ca_gere who hasn't been back in years it's a minor complaint but it does make a difference; it kind of rules out going back just for a weekend.

Do you see yourself staying abroad in the long term or do you plan on returning to Scotland after a certain amount of time? I've lived in Barcelona for 5 years now and for most of that time I never really pictured myself moving back home and thought that if I did go back to Scotland it would probably be to Edinburgh or Glasgow. However I've just spent a few weeks back home as I usually do in August and for the first time it's really made me think about returning, not just to Scotland but to Aberdeen. It's taken me by surprise a wee bit and I'm interested to see whether the feeling wears off quickly or sticks around.

When put that simply of course no one would argue with that. No one is going to say watching Emmerdale is more important than staying alive. However for previously mentioned reasons I still think people in poverty buying a nice television is understandable and excusable. Struggling in poverty must wear people down so much that splashing out a little bit on something would be kind of necessary for your sanity whether it makes financial sense or not.

I do like the traffic light clolours and info on the front. I wish they had all that on the packaging over here.

I don't really agree with the having a go at these families for having a nice telly. They're not really that expensive these days and I'm sure they can be bought on long term hire purchase schemes for not much money a week. If a family has 4 kids the amount of time they will be entertained by it makes it incredible value for money, it's quite easy to see why people stretch to this one luxury. I think it's way to simplistic to ridicule someone for watching corrie on a flatscreen while in poverty.

I generally like him though and think he is mostly trying to do good.

I didn't read all of that but Oliver's comments about the poor did come across as a bit ignorant and potentially insulting.
