Cameroon players almost refused to come because they were in a strop about win bonuses, demanding over a hundred grand per player for a win. They then came and barely tried against Mexico. Against Croatia their captain got sent off for stupidly and pointlessly elbowing a player in the back which led to a collapse and huge defeat and by the end of the match they were fighting with each other. Pathetic group of twats.

I only saw the second half of that one but it was a lot of fun. Costa Rica are good value for being at the top of that group. I think there's a very good chance they'll get as far as the quarters.

Come on, there's nothing as bad as the Landry story in season 2.

It got cancelled and then picked up by another network. It finishes very nicely after season 5. Nothing bad about it either, great tv show. Good characters, well written and well acted.

England definitely shouldn't give up, it's not completely impossible. However it also seems set up for heroic failure. England do everything they can but Italy just don't get the goal necessary to get England through.

Italy won't win both their other games though will they? I'm struggling to think of a time Italy got 9 points in a group stage. If they beat Costa Rica today I don't see them doing better than a draw in the final match.

Mexico - Croatia should be a cracking match. Holland - Chile should be too, as long as both sides really care about first place and presumably avoiding brazil.

If Xavi goes to Qatar his career is essentially over and it's sad that it will end in the way it has for both club and country. One of the all time greats. The most important Spanish player ever. He hasn't been at his best the last couple of years but it's a pity all involved couldn't find a way for him to stay involved with reduced playing time so he could still have an influence on the club. It also means all three club captains are leaving Barca.

Honestly I'm gutted Spain are out. Players as good as Iniesta shouldn't be going home this early. I like Chile and I'm happy they will go through and I hope they avoid Brazil in the next round because if they'd avoided Spain in 2010 they would have gone far. Spain have a lot of problems and really just didn't turn up. They've made an average dutch team look good. Albeit an average side with two fantastic players in form. Del Bosque should never have been kept in the position for so long. The team has been in desperate need for fresh impetus and he wasn't willing to make it happen. He's been playing the wrong formation for his whole time in charge too.

Chile too spicy for Spain. Is everyone else just not saying it because it's too obvious?

Spain's defensive record prior to the Holland match was pretty much the best in the world. There's no way they'll be so bad at the back again. Having said that I wouldn't bet on them winning. A draw seems very likely to me.
