USA waste no time. Great goal too, lovely first touch. I didn't see the early match today but I'm happy with the scoreline. The only good thing about Portugal is the chance to see Ronaldo do something special, otherwise they're crap. I haven't really liked them since Euro 2000. Apart from when they were knocking out England on penalties.

I agree with that. Two of my favourite characters died and neither felt like it had much impact.

I still think it's a stretch to say this is something peculiar that happens with Germany. Especially with Bierhoff. Looking at his records he scored 4 world cups goals over two tournaments and only 2 goals at the Euros. He was top scorer in serie a in the 97-98 season, it was hardly unusual for him to score 3 goals in the world cup that year. The only other one he got was in the 8-0 thrashing of an abysmal Saudi team.

Hasn't Muller generally been considered one of the top attacking midfielders in Europe for the last few years? And Bierhoff was banging in the goals for in Serie A in between scoring goals for Germany. Argentina will hope for better in their next games but the 3 points is the most important thing. The winners often have an unimpressive first match anyway. The narrative the media are trying to spin around Messi s annoying. He wasn't bad in 06 at all. He just didn't score. His first match in 2006 was certainly much much better than last night, but pundits like Alan Shearer can't look past goals for their analysis.

I did really like the episode, just not as much as some of the others this season. My main problem for next season is that with Joffrey, Tywin and The Hound killed off we are rapidly running out of the really great characters established in season 1.I'd say the only character introduced after season 1 to be any good was Oberyn and we've lost him as well. Add to that Arya and Tyrion going away from westeros, the next season will be even more spread out which I don't predict to be a good thing. Tyrion's story especially interests me a lot less with him away from King's Landing. Also are we supposed to believe that The Hound and Arya were just allowed to turn around and go after they found out her aunt had died. It also seemed very strange that Arya wouldn't want to talk to Brienne more and try and find out something about her family.

A fairly good finale even though I feel the final 3 episodes brought the quality of the season overall down a bit. Some of the things which happened in that episode and the season as a whole leave me slightly worried about the future of the show.
