  1. For anyone who hasn't seen this yet YouTube - Karl Henry Reminds me of Nigel Pepper!
  2. "I can hear the heart beating as one" has some of everything that makes Yo la Tengo great. "And then nothing turned it's head" might be their most cohesive album and really flows well, but it's largely showing off one side of the band. I can hear the heart.... is just the essential Yo La Tengo album, it has to be my no. 1. It's very rare that I would be so interested in the next album from a band who have been around so long and already released so much.
  3. His hair is the reason Arsenal haven't won anything in the last few years. The footballing gods just wont allow such hair to get anywhere near a trophy.
  4. Fergie shouldn't have put Berbatov on, he should have just pretended he had an injury. Putting him on just showed how bad of a decision it was to leave him out in the first place. If he'd started I think there's a good chance they would have won. Nasri has been great this season but that could change very soon as I'm thinking of adding him to my fantasy team. I think Chelsea will continue their recent form against Arsenal. Both sides can be vulnerable at the back but I think Chelsea are more likely to take advantage. I think Essien and Malouda will find space quite easily and cause a lot problems.
  5. Also, Liverpool in the relegation zone:
  6. Are United going to draw every away game this season? Chelsea can play Arsenal now with less pressure.
  7. Yes Nani has been probably their best player, just because he's been involved in the game.
  8. I'm not sure I could pick one favourite song, Blue Line Swinger is really great though. I missed the chance to see them live last year by waiting too long to buy a ticket.
  9. Decided to watch sunderland - Man U. United have been awful, I can't remember the last time I saw them play so badly. Owen, Macheda, Scholes and Fletcher have barely touched the ball, Anderson and Nani have been on the ball, but consistently given it away. Sunderland really should be at least 2 up, they could regret not taking advantage of their dominance if Utd come out playing in the second half.
  10. For a long time yo la tengo were a band I was aware of but never listened to and then even when I first got one of their albums I never gave it much time. Over the last year however I've really got into them and now they're easily one of my favourite bands. Makes me feel foolish for sleeping on them for so long. Any other big fans here? At the moment I'd rank my favourite albums as: 1. I can hear the heart beating as one 2. And then nothing turned it's head 3. Electr-o-pura 4. I'm not afraid of you and I will beat your ass 5. Popular Songs 6. Painful That could change tomorrow though, I like them all almost equally. I don't really know the albums pre painful as well. I need to listen to them more.
  11. I was a big Cato Guntviet fan as well, he could really strike a football. Probably would just miss out on a team of the decade. I'd agree with Nefarious C's team, after the changes he made. I hope the dons get back to winning ways today, 3-0 with a Scotty V hat-trick would be nice. Doesn't look like there's any way I can watch today's game online, at least there is teh Ryder Cup to keep me ticking over.
  12. Kieth Gillespie bankrupt, with hiliarious photo! How does a football player end up bankrupt so soon after a full career? He must have run his finances worse than a premiership team.
  13. Didn't see that much of the European action this week. Second half of Valencia - Utd yesterday, which I didn't think was that bad, good goal. Just watched the second half of Man City - Juve, IT was alright. Adebayor was pretty shite. Would have liked one of Del Piero's free kicks to have gone in. He will always be awesome in my eyes.
  14. I haven't played one of these in years, when it was still called championship manager. But lately I've been feeling an urge to return to football management so I think I'll buy this when it comes out. I just hope I don't get addicted as I did before. Javier Saviola in Championship manager 3 (?) was the greatest signing I ever came across.
  15. I've heard that Engleby is very different from his other novels and Birdsong has been recommended to me by a few folk now so I probably will check it out sometime.
  16. Lemon curd is awful and this really shouldn't be up for debate.
  17. I still keep in contact with most of the people who I was good friends with when I finished school. I have much more friends that I met at school than university anyway.
  18. I've only listened a few times and at the moment I like it but not as much as microcastle. None of the songs are as good as Nothing Ever Happened though. Not even close.
  19. It seems like there just isn't enough people with similar tastes to keep a high level of discussion going. If I hear a band for the first time that I really like, I'm not that likely to start a thread about it because threads I have started received few responses. Also there are often threads which don't interest me as I don't like/ am not interested in the subject matter. Maybe it's just me but it does seem that any thread about a specific band dies quite quickly. The threads which grow are ones which allow people to continuously post something they like without actual discussion developing. The only other forum I visit is as busy as it ever was (it has always been much bigger though), so I can't really comment on whether there is a general trend of decline. [Edit] The facebook/ myspace factor probably has had a big impact on this board in particular (and other boards for local music scenes). I imagine many joined this board as a way of keeping up to date with the local music scene, gigs, ep releases of their favourite bands etc. Social networks have made Ab-Music much less relevant in this way.
  20. This really bugs me too, I know both ways are correct but it just sounds so wrong to me when a singular form of a verb is used for teams, bands etc... I teach English and I always correct students if they write something the "American way". Do it my way or FAIL
  21. Has anyone heard anything about this story of The Daily Star printing fake stories with fake interviews from football players? Obviously it's the Star, so not the biggest surprise but these stories do still get picked up and reported in other places. The Star printed a story quoting Gerard Pique as saying it's embarrassing for Torres to be playing for Liverpool and he's desperate to leave. Pique denies ever speaking to anyone at the Star. Journalists including Guillem Balague and Sid Lowe have been doing a twitter campaign to highlight the number of suspect articles printed in the paper. Bit more on it here ontd_football: Pique sternly denies Interview and Torres quotes
  22. I agree that there are some decent points to be made about current problems with football. It's the over the top complaining about it, by some people you meet, and ignoring many things which are clearly better about it now which bothers me.
