  1. The early R.E.M records are great. Murmer and Reckoning are great albums from start to finish.
  2. I'd take McFly over The Fratellis any day, which says more about how much I dislike The Fratellis who I've only ever found to be completely awful.
  3. Odd story BBC News - Fifa probes 'fake' Togo football team at Bahrain match That Bahrain only won 3-0 is kind of hilarious
  4. Got to give credit to Rangers for getting a point, really didn't expect that. From the brief highlights I just saw it didn't look like McGregor was really troubled once. Cracking strike for Valencia's first goal. Judging by their start to the season they don't seem to be missing Villa and Silva too much. Nice finish from Eto'o tonight too.
  5. Reading the BBC text updates, sounds like a thrilling match at Old Trafford Panathinaikos scored a goal from a long ball as simple as that Germany goal against England in the world cup. Puyol has had a couple of great seasons but he can really seem off the pace now. Messi's second goal was wonderful.
  6. Mosquito bites! aaaaargh [edit] Also reading this online : "Cannot play media. Sorry, this media is not available in your territory."
  7. Just watched Whatever Works. Probably the funniest of modern era Woody Allen films I've seen. 8/10
  8. Predictions for tonight? I'm going for Barcelona 4-0 Panathinaikos (I'm expecting a big reaction to the hercules loss) Bremen 2-2 Spurs Man Utd 3-0 Rangers Twente 0-1 Inter Lyon 2-0 Shalke I can't be bothered with predicting the others.
  9. I was about to reply to the same post, but this more or less sums up what I would have said. For me a connection with a football team is definitely something that grows rather than something you automatically acquire by choosing a team the "correct" way.
  10. Unfortunately for both the 4-0 against Copenhagen and the 2-2 with Munich I was in Nepal with no Internet access where I was staying so I completely missed out. That whole European campaign which is probably the highlight of recent times for most Dons fans is something I have little recollection of. My strongest and fondest Dons memories are from about 95-02 when I was able to have a season ticket and go to every home match.
  11. One of my favourite matches ever. Jess was awesome in that second half.
  12. I cried after Scotland lost against Morocco in' 98
  13. It depends on whether they follow the league and watch games though? If someone takes a keen interest in Bundesliga and Ligue 1 why shouldn't they start to follow a team? As I said before merely "following" a team can over time turn into a strong link to and passion for a club. I wouldn't say so anymore, but when I was younger I was a big supporter of Juventus. With Channel 4's awesome coverage serie a was actually the easiest league to follow for a person without Sky when I was growing up. I felt a strong affinity for the league and the team I arbitrarily picked the first time I tuned in. I never really followed La Liga when I lived in the UK but since I've been living in Spain I've built a strong connection to Barcelona and although my passion for them isn't as strong as it is for Aberdeen I wouldn't say it's any less genuine. Nor is my passion for Chelsea who I picked just because all the kids at primary school picked an English team.
  14. At least in my experience this kind of thing isn't the case with Scottish football fans supporting English teams. I always believed that people did grow up supporting the English side as well, the choice might be made for a silly reason but it's usually made when 10,11,12 years old.
  15. Well obviously there are some who don't, but most people I know who are big football fans like to follow the premiership and have a team they support. Even if someone has started supporting a team for the most arbitrary of reasons, if they've since been following that team for a long period of time, that in itself is a clear connection to the club. Even the "accepted" reasons for supporting a club (local team, parents etc) are just incidental reasons to start investing your time and attention to that club, I'm not sure they really give someone a stronger connection to the club.
  16. Surely the majority of Scottish football fans also have a team in the Premiership that they like? Since most probably make this decision when they're quite young it's hardly surprising that people tend to pick one of the exciting sides towards the top of the premiership. I can't really see a problem with a group of Man U fans in a pub in Edinburgh.
  17. I fucking loved The Bluetones (when I was 11/12), one of the first albums I ever bought. I've just listened to "Slight Return" on youtube now, still great
  18. Tracksuit managers should stay in the football league where they belong.
  19. Interesting article about Hercules victory over Barca at the weekend and in particular Nelson valdez who scored the two goals. Nelson Valdez hails a 'dream come true' as Hrcules shock Barcelona | Sid Lowe | Football | guardian.co.uk
  20. I watched "Moon" today, which was excellent. Fantastic performance from Sam Rockwell who was already one of my favourite actors.
  21. To be fair to him, he's pretty funny when he pops up with a mic after Spain win something. However he is a knob for not realising that he is too good for Liverpool and should leave to aid their slow decline down the league table.
  22. Aye, shutter island is good. In the last couple of days I've watched Frozen River and Hidden. I liked both a lot but I preferred Hidden of the two. That might just be because Juliete Binoche, who is ace, is in it.
  23. I've never been able to whistle and I hate that whenever I mention this to someone they either -laugh heartily pleased with themselves that they can do this supposedly simple task making them a better person than me -look at me oddly like they are surprised I was even able to dress myself when I am unable to do the simple task of whistling -or most annoyingly spend five minutes demonstrating how it is done and trying to get me to do it, believing that I have obviously spent my entire life ashamed of myself for not being able to whistle and they will solve all my problems and I will forever be indebted to them. Whistling sucks!
