  1. High Violet is decent but I don't listen to it that much as there are lots of other recent albums I prefer.
  2. Referee was a bit of a joke tonight. That scene of him asking Fabiano if it was a handball was ridiculous, if he had any doubts why didn't he at least ask his assistant for an opinion? What I thought and feared might happen, did. Brazil won comfortably without being great. I hope an improved Spain dump them out in round 2. North Korea to win tomorrow?
  3. Spain will still be under a lot of pressure if they win tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to the Chile - Spain match, could be a cracker if Chile stick to their attacking way of play. I've just remembered that I have Maicon and Cesar in my fantasy team so I'll have slightly divided loyalties tonight.
  4. In 2002 there was some excitement when lots of the big boys struggled and went out early, but we still ended up with two of the biggest teams in the final and worse two big teams that hadn't actually been playing great football. It's good to see some shocks but I'd like the best footballing teams to play well and progress. I'd be happy to see Brazil go out, unless Dunga suddenly has a complete change of footballing philosophy. I'd love to see Drogba terrorise them and score a hat-trick. However I expect to be disappointed and see Brazil win fairly comfortably in the end with a couple of counter-attacking goals.
  5. I think it did just come off the New Zealand player but it was such a close call that you can't really blame the assistant ref. Penalty was one of those that technically was a foul but 99% of the time isn't called. I expect Italy will still go through with a win over Slovakia who have shown very little. At least unlike England or France, Italy did show some real desire to score and created some chances. The situation within the French team seems like a complete shambles, at least it might give something to the home fans to cheer in the next game.
  6. Two good finishes from Paraguay, they never looked troubled.
  7. For the World Cup tournament, FIFA uses the following criteria to rank teams in the Group Stage. 1. greatest number of points in all group matches; 2. goal difference in all group matches; 3. greatest number of goals scored in all group matches; 4. greatest number of points in matches between tied teams; 5. goal difference in matches between tied teams; 6. greatest number of goals scored in matches between tied teams; 7. drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
  8. If England draw 2-2 and the US 0-0, it will be decided by the drawing of lots.
  9. Kewell was standing on the goal line with the obvious intention of using his body to block to try and block any shot heading towards that section of the goal. Since it is illegal to use an arm to block the ball he should do what he can to ensure that doesn't happen. Kewell actually us moving his arm towards the ball when it is struck and not making any attempt to keep his arms tucked in to his body or behind his back. As a result a clear a goal was prevented by the use his arm. Deliberate enough for me and if that is not a penalty there is something very wrong with the rules.
  10. Fantastic Mr. Fox Really great film. I loved the way it was done, it looked great.
  11. eh, by any rules of the game that was a penalty. Perhaps under the rules you could say that the red card was too harsh but the penalty decision was 100% correct. Cracking game tonight, I'm sad Cameroon lost and have gone out but they were awful against Japan and wasted a lot of chances tonight so I suppose that is what they deserve. Best game of the tournament though.
  12. After goal difference it would go to goals scored. Which would have the US ahead at the moment. I really have very low expectation of the England side, but that was truly awful. Rooney could get will likely be on the end of a lot of hate after that comment. The fans there must have spent thousands to be there, why shouldn't they boo?
  13. James should be the clear England No.1 imo, great keeper. Looking forward to the Germany Serbia match. Can Germany play as well as they did against the aussies? Can Serbia justisy their 'Dark Horses' tag? Should be interesting. Thankfully I don't work much today so the only thing I will miss is some of USA - Slovenia. And then it's the weekend and I can watch everything
  14. Opinion on the level of punditry in the World Cup. Tom English: 'The level of punditry is patronising and insulting' - The Scotsman Great joke from James Richardson on last night's world cup daily: "What's the difference between Brazil and Alan Shearer?" "People like Brazil with a Maicon!"
  15. Surely the best day of the tournament so far. Chile were really great. Very disappointed with Spain's result, a tricky position they are in now. They will need to rack up the goals against Honduras in case it goes to goal difference.
  16. I think today could be a decent day of footie if Spain strut their stuff and South Africa and Uruguay lose some of the opening game cautiousness. Chile are decent too but I expect Honduras to sit in against them. Unfortunately today I'll be working for the one match I really want to see (Spain)
  17. Newcastle fan aye? His opinions are rubbish I think some people are going over the top about how "bad" the world cup has been. Sure we haven't had a true classic encounter yet and goals have been a bit sparse but it is hardly as if every game is the worst football match ever. South Africa v Mexico, Argentina v Nigeria, Germany v Australia, England v USA, Brazil v North Korea and South Korea v Greece have all either had good quality football or been good contests. After the first 10 days 2006 was hailed as the best world cup ever as goals were flying in but then they dried up in the knock out stages. It's very possible this world cup could do the reverse. Anyway I think teams will open up a bit more and score more in their second games. Tomorrow I'm hoping to see a good showing from Chile, Spain show why they are favourites and South Africa and Uruguay to go all out for a win after decent draws in their first games. Honduras 0-2 Chile Spain 3-0 Switzerland South Africa 2-1 Uruguay
  18. Ah I've never listened to Moyles on the radio, the odd ocassion he is on tv is enough to put me off ever tuning in.
  19. A GOAL! YAY Who the hell is comedy Dave? Just from his name I know he is not funny.
  20. Is Mark Bright doing any co-commentary this time? He is always awful.
  21. Not able to watch either this time round but BBC are always miles ahead of ITV, just better quality all round. It seems like some of my favourite pundits from the last one aren't doing it this time. i.e. Leonardo, O'Neil, Strachan And why does Alan Shearer seem to be given more and more profile with every year? Just reading some of his opinions on the beeb website he has pissed me off more than anyone else.
  22. If you are not already, you should listen to the world cup daily podcasts from the guardian. James Richardson is the best ever.
  23. Yeah I'm not too confident of a spectacular display form Brazil either. Depends on whether Kaka and Robinho can find some form. Korea have no chance against that defence though!
  24. I only saw brief highlights of the Paraguay - Italy game but it seems like a fairly typical Italian opening to the tournement. Both these teams should qualify as I can't see Slovakia or the Kiwis giving them any trouble. It could be quite interesting if in the third round of fixtures both teams had to go against their instincts and go out to get goals in order to avoid finishing second in their group and facing Holland in the second round. Italy to go out to Spain in the quarters. Today's games, I'm going for Slovakia 2-0 New Zealand Ivory Coast 2-1 Portugal (If Drogba is actually fit and doesn't spend the whole match protecting his arm) Brazil 4-0 North Korea I think North Korea will keep it tight early on but Brazil will score one in the first half and take advantage as more gaps appear later in the game.
