  1. Watching this I really can't believe that these sides beat Egypt and Russia, who are both quality teams, to make it to the world cup.
  2. England have a lot of problems at the back. Carragher really shouldn't be there, him and Terry look very vulnerable. And once again we saw that playing Lampard and Gerrard together in the centre of a 4 man midfield just doesn't work. Heskey showed for the goal why Capello likes him, but he showed later by missing that easy chance just why he shouldn't be there. What he adds doesn't nearly make up for his failures. I think Capello should play a 4-3-3, giving Lampard and Gerrard the help of a sitting midfielder and two wide men up front who can drop back to make five in midfield if required. Of course Capello wont do this though. Anyway on the basis of this awful match on just now, England will have no problems qualifying for the next round.
  3. Nice to see that so far South Korea are showing Greece how to actually play football.
  4. Spain 4-3 Yugoslavia from Euro 2000? YouTube - Spain & Yugoslavia it was a cracker, one of my faves
  5. So close now!! Predictions for the opening day? I'm going for South Africa 2-2 Mexico France 0-1 Uruguay
  6. I'm going for Serbia to win their group, leaving Germany second place to face England in round 2.
  7. Y tu mama tambien Second time I've seen this. Very good film, I'd say 8/10.
  8. Yeah you should read any Vonnegut you can get your hands on. My favourite might be Cat's Cradle. And you should read The Brothers Karamazov, it's fantastic.
  9. I've joined. Like you said I already had a team on this one.
  10. I really hope Drogba and Robben are fit to play. It would be very sad if they are missing from the tournament.
  11. How would everyone rank the different World Cups that you have seen? I would go... 1. 2006 There are a few reasons why I like this one the best. Most importantly my work situation allowed to me to take enough holidays and move some shifts so that I wasn't working during a single match of the tournament. For the most part the quality of football was extremely high and very exciting. I can't remember being bored on many occasions. At the start of the tournament goals were flying in all over the place and great quality ones too. They might have dried up a bit as the tournament progressed but I still enjoyed the games. It appeared that Germany did a fantastic job as hosts, which led to a great atmosphere in the host cities and within the stadiums during the matches. The Germany - Italy semi-final is perhaps my favourite international match ever. It was great stuff to watch. Attacking, entertaining, high quality football the whole way. Ending up with the level of drama only the world cup can provide. It helps of course that the outcome of that match and the tournament itself was one I was very happy with. Ever since the days of Football Italia on channel 4 I've liked Italy to do well and it was nice to see them win while favourite players of mine like Del Piero and Cannavaro were still playing well. And I can't not mention that Cambiasso goal. Simply brilliant. 2. 1998 The only world cup I have watched with Scotland in it so I will always remember it fondly, even if it didn't go to well for us. I associate this world cup with a lot of great forwards who were playing near the peak of their game. Vieri, Batistuta, Bergkamp, Sukor, Ronaldo were all great, but the winners France were playing with players like Dugarry and Guivarch!?( OK they had henry and trezequet but they were young kids then. It was nice to see a team that had never won the tournament before win and good to see France win infront of their home crowd (this might have been the last time France were a likeable team). Other memories of this world cup are the obvious, David Beckham's red card, Bergkamp's goal, the Ronaldo "fit" etc. Also when I look back now I see this as a missed opportunity for a pretty great dutch team. I think they would have beaten France if they won the penalty shoot out in the semis. 3. 1994 My first world cup. '94 was pretty much the year I started to really like football and so when this started there were a lot of great players who were still unknown to me and some players I will always associate with this world cup. Such as Hagi, Stoichkov, Romario, Bebeto. Good tournament with quite a few very strong teams. Shame about the Final, that was a huge disappoinment. And I was so upset when Baggio missed The second half of the Brazil - Holland match was probably my highlight. Remember the Mexican keeper's (Campos?) ridiculous DIY kit? How did anyone think that was good? And Oleg Salenko? 1 game, 5 goals, did that really happen? ?( 4. 2002 Awful Just Awful OK so I enjoyed it at the time, it's a world cup of course I'll think it is great. But really this was by far the worst that I have seen. Ok so there were some shocks and suprises but they were all due to bigger teams being shit and well below their best and of course the famous disgraceful refereeing. Really boring brazil side that one it too, not nearly as good as the team that lost in '98. It does seem that Brazil win when they are boring these days, which could be a sign because Dunga has made them pretty dull. I have very few positive memories of this, I was happy for the south Korean fans and that almost made me overlook the dodgy refs for a bit but not quite. It didn't help that the time difference meant that I had to miss a lot of games and the heat meant the players looked shattered after 5 minutes. This world cup was so bad Ireland might have won it if Keane hadn't fucked off. 2002...never again please. Anyway to end on a more positive note, I have high hopes for this upcoming world cup. I can't wait!
  12. He is still a major doubt for the world cup though. I hope he makes it, one of my favourite players and Ivory Coast could do well if he plays. I'll join if a mini league gets set up for the official fantasy football.
  13. I would choose James as number 1 (and I don't mean because I want England to lose).
  14. Seems like Octopussy isn't very popular, I actually really liked that one. I think Goldfinger is my favourite Connery film. I really liked Goldeneye, but I hate all the other Bronsnan films, completely terrible. Casino Royale was great, I haven't seen Quantum of Solace yet.
  15. Yes, The Corner is great. Pretty depressing though.
  16. I saw a couple of videos of Gorillaz at Coachella this year and they looked fantastic. Plastic Beach is one of my favourite albums of this year.
  17. 1. The Wire 2. The Sopranos (I'm up to season 5 now) There is no doubt about those, nothing else really comes close for me (from what I've seen). However after only 7 episodes Treme is already shaping up to join them at the top level. I haven't seen Deadwood or Mad Men yet but I have a feeling I will like them alot based on what I have heard and who I have heard it from. Comedies I would rank separately, something like... The Simpsons Seinfeld Frasier Curb Your Enthusiasm Arrested Development
  18. The season 2 version of the wire song it the original. I like all the versions of the song (maybe not so keen on season 3) but it took a few episodes each season to get used to the change.
  19. He's been talking alot about getting a 'grand slam' of titles. It seems important to him to have won the league title in England, Italy and Spain. He'll defenitely be back in England after his spell at Madrid. He doesn't appear to be the type to stick around in one place for too long so even if Real want him gone after two years he might not need to be pushed.
  20. Yeah their debut was one of my favourites of 2008. Hopefully their new album will be released this year.
  21. Arsene Wenger should be sacked if he fails yet again to buy a decent keeper. I don't want to allow myself to be depressed by thoughts of Aberdeen at least until the world cup is over.
  22. I wish they would make more adverts like this !
  23. Yeah the MLS is pretty shit, probably better than the SPL though
