  1. I don't think Kiriakov was that bad for us really. At least not at first, he got shit once all the booze and fags caught up with him. And all those prices look extra worse from the viewpoint of today's market but not all them were unreasonable for the time.
  2. Must have been 96-97 Classic video here http://www.afc.co.uk/page/TV/MemorableMatchesDetail/0,,10284~2080038,00.html (if you have red tv) Aberdeen are the highest scoring team in Britain, there's a home debut goal from that man Kombouare, some "great play from Kiriakov" and even a little musical clip of "How Bizarre". What more could you want?
  3. That Celtic game with Hignett is one of my favourite ever dons games. If I remember right that was only the second game of the season and we'd won at dens the week before, a game I'd also gone to. Everything seemed so promising then but quickly went downhill. Speaking of going downhill, who remembers the season we were second at christmas and Dodds and Windass were the top scorers in all of Britain and then we just didn't win again for the rest of the season. We were immense at times in the first half of the season. What year was that?
  4. I mentioned him in a post just a few days ago. When he was with us I was convinced he had the ability to be amazing but perhaps I was just won over by the show off things he'd do once in a while.
  5. Heikkenen was quality.
  6. Nigel Pepper added an extra degree of fun to going to dons games. Winters was a great player, it's just a shame he always had the Dodds thing hanging over him.
  7. Of course but he did it in the champions league too. He scored ten champions league goals in one season. There's probably only a couple of players who have ever done better than that.
  8. Wenger wants to play with 11 players against 11 tonight. He should probably tell his players to stop giving the referee reasons to send his players off.
  9. I would say he looked just as good at Kiev and I wouldn't say that team was set up just to service him. I think the differences between the leagues that you mentioned were important but also that the troubles between Abramovich and Mourinho which were going on at the time were significant. Sadly I also suspect that his heart just wasn't really in the challenge of starting somewhere new.

  11. Shevchenko was one of the biggest disappointments ever to come to the premiership. He was brilliant at Dynamo and Milan, it just seemed impossible he wouldn't score goals at Chelsea. Torres is slightly different, if you forget about the price tag and what he used to be like he has often actually been a very good player for Chelsea if only rarely a goal scoring one. He has certainly made important contributions in big games. I loved Leboeuf. I was happy Blanc was suspended for the WC final in 98 because it meant Leboeuf got to play. I remember Jody Morris once scoring the fifth goal in a five nil win over Man U. Speaking of old Chelsea players, one striker who didn't flop at all. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Now he was a goalscorer.
  12. Casiraghi is another big failure but that was a lot to do with injury problems. The one goal he did score was the Phil Babb ball crushing classic though. He'll always have that.
  13. I loved Kombouare, great player. He was obviously at the end of his career but I don't remember anything about him lying about his age. I'm not sure how he would have been able to do that when he'd had a relatively high profile career. He'd been playing in the champions league semi-finals only a couple of years before he moved to us. He was more comfortable on the ball than any of our other players, unfortunately he knew that too well and often tried to dribble round 3 players in his own box.
  14. I visited years ago and thought it was great. Do ryanair still do flights there from Aberdeen. I remember getting return flights for almost nothing.
  15. Last episode of True Detective was great, concluded the season excellently. There haven't been many better seasons of television than that.
  16. Ke$ha has changed her name to Kesha. Expectations for her next album are now extremely low.
  17. I think Aberdeen - Dundee United would be a great final. As amazing as it will be having 40,000 dons fans at the Inverness match I think can take huge sides would make it an even better occasion. But losing to them would be shit.
  18. Can you claim tissues as tax detectable because you need to wank to be relaxed for work?
  19. Today: There's a mini festival thing on this weekend and I'm going to this club night which is part of it. http://www.mutek.org/en/spain/2014/events/870-nocturne-3 I'm quite excited to see Andy Stott live. Tomorrow: Dunno, watching sport probably. Sunday: Dunno, watching sport probably.

  21. I've been listening to this album a lot lately. It might be my favourite thing I've got from this thread. I can't remember if anything by this girl but the album is out and is quite good. Got a hold of the foxes album too and it's as good as I hoped.
  22. I think that free kick might have been his first goal for us. The commentator on the video mentions him changing the game against Motherwell on the Wednesday night before. I think that was his debut and I was wrong about it being against Hearts. 2 assists on his debut then his first goal in his second match. Or maybe my memory is all messed up. Another great zero moment, the puddle celebration. http://youtu.be/rCN5vbyAkF8?t=2m18s
  23. I don't are about the here and now. The pain of the Aberdeen defeat will never go away.
  24. I actually have really fond memories of that season. Partly just because of how ridiculous it was I think. A lot of it has to do with age, that was during the period when I was probably the most dons and football obsessed I ever have been. But there were some great moments to remember that season. I'll never forget the bizarre experience of listening to us get our first win in the 6-5 match away to Motherwell. I couldn't wait to the next morning to read all the reports in the morning paper and get every detail. It might sound like a bad state of affairs to have Andy Dow be the star player but he somehow was incredible that season. He just kept coming up with fantastic goals. His confidence clearly just sky rocketed and he rode the wave as long as he could. I remember he scored a really great one in a 1-1 draw away to Saint Johnston. However his most important goal (aside from the semi final one mentioned) has to be the extra time winner against the huns in one of the early rounds of the league cup. It must have been only October or something, maybe November but we were definitely not in a good period of the season. I couldn't believe it when we won that match. The fact we had had so little to cheer all season made it extra special. Great scenes outside the ground after the match. Another great moment from that match was Belabed, in the final minutes after we'd scored, doing keepy ups while they were waiting to take a free kick. McCann pretty much put him in a headlock to get him off the ball. Probably the best thing Rachid ever did in a dons shirt sadly. Speaking of Moroccans. No signing has ever got me as excited as Zerouali, I loved him as soon as he came on in his debut and turned the match around by creating two goals. Think it was against hearts and we were down 1-0. Even though we were at the bottom of the league I suddenly felt like we had the best player in the country and everything was going to be alright. I was baffled when he was left on the bench for the Scottish Cup final. We beat Killie 5-1 in a game late on in the season which he scored a goal that (at least in the way I remember it in my head) was almost as good as Van Basten's in 88. I feel like I've rambled quite a bit, in conclusion. Sack McInnes, get Ebbe back.
