  1. I dislike Bring me the horizon and think they're rubbish, and I laughed when I heard that the drummer broke down in tears when he couldn't play some of his beats in the studio. Indeed 'breakdowns are over-used and tiresomely dull in most metal bands today. However, they shouldn't be completely knocked... Technical breakdowns, a la Meshuggah are awesome. It's still possible to be creative within the confines of "chun-chun-wee-wee"-land, as long as you have enough creativity and technical ability.
  2. .... the vocal talents of Justin Hill of SikTh. MySpace.com - MY MINDS WEAPON [TOUR DATES UP] - Aberdeen, UK - Metal / Hardcore / Progressive - www.myspace.com/mymindsweapon It's called "At Least You're Not Dead" It's not strictly a 'new' song... it's nearly 2 years old - but has been re-recorded. Here's some lovely artwork that I did for it: We're also doing our first video (professionally) this weekend, so that should be up in the next month or so. Should apparently get a bit of MTV2/scuzz etc rotation (with any luck!)
  3. "Riders Of The Plague" the new Absence album is pretty good as far as metal is concerned. Also, the new As I Lay Dying album is a cracker, and I know how uncool it is to say you like a 'metalcore' band such as them. But if all else fails, and if you're bored with all current metal... go back and dig out those classic Testament, Forbidden and Death albums. And if you don't own any of them then, then you should be ashamed of yourselves.
  4. I can understand why it's easy to dislike enter shikari's music, but there are a lot of comments on here that are utter bullshit in regards to them. They got where they are through 2 or 3 years of getting in a van and constantly playing shows anywhere and everywhere with a work ethic that I have never seen from another band. And at least they sound entirely different to all these indentikit shit metal bands that everyone is complaining about... Granted, the above doesn't automatically make them a good band - but is at least a more worthy accolade than playing gigs in kef and the moorings once every few months and then pissing and moaning on a message board about other bands making it big by daring to do something different and working their balls off. (that was directed at no-one person in particular) I might add, I don't enjoy them on record, but the live show is pretty spectacular.
  5. Download it from itunes for a cool 79p! It's fast, heavy and technical all the way through. We recorded the drums ourselves in a studio in glasgow. Mic'ed up in all the usual ways, nick did it as he is a sound engineer. All original drum sounds and hits were used although they were often doubled with samples, as is the norm these days. (that kick drum is actually three different kick drums - nick's original one, a low heavy one and a punchy high end one, so it covers all the necessary EQ's for a good kick drums sound. Dan and Justin from SikTh did all the mixing and mastering so they are to thank for that stuff.
  6. You heard the Killing Horizon? there's a few blasts in that.... Count your way through Silhouettes, most of it is in 5/4, and 6/4, although it's the bits that are in 4/4 are the most complex... (well, for nick anyway) ?( Euro metal?!? I don't mind a bit of that stuff, but I really have no idea which bits you mean sound like euro metal! I'm not being defensive at all, I'm just really confused!
  7. We've always had synth on all our recorded versions of songs, since the days of 'this is revenge!' I play them on record and they're always quite subtle, but we don't use them live.
  8. Yeah man. 'In death is death' was off their last album. Although I think the albums 'chaosphere' and 'destroy. erase. improve' are much better examples of what meshuggah can do, compared to their last few albums.
  9. Cheers man. Originally we had 4 tracks of rhythm guitars: A 6505 played left and right and then doubled with the vh4, but the final mix was just 2 tracks of the Peavey mic'ed with one SM57 (one panned hard left and then the other hard right). All lead and clean guitar overdubs were the VH4. Next album, when we have more time I'll quadrouple the rhythm guitars, but for this one it sounded pretty fat as stripped down as that. Quite a bit of layering was done on certain sections though, eg the 'solo' bit has 2 rhythm, one lead, and 2 very, very subtle clean guitars, as well as a quiet synth. All adds to the overall ambience!
  10. I'd go but I'm getting married on that day.
  11. It's the kid's fault for taking drugs, she should know better by that age. Still, at least she had her tits out.
  12. what's the mod of the tubescreamer... i.e. what's done to it and how does it effect the pedal? Also... do you revalve Diezels!?! Mine needs done pretty soon...
  13. They make you smarter. Fact. The doctor wanted to take mine out, but I made him put in an extra 7 instead.
  14. I like this thread...as I shall be moving to Edinburgh next month. Please keep making suggestions for me too! Also if anyone knows of a nice non-smoking professional type person looking for a flat, I have a spare room... Heather (not Dan)
  15. Have you tried the VH4? It is definitely less of a compressed sound than the Herbert, and I know someone who ended up swapping his herbert for a Vh4 for this reason - although i'm guessing you fancy a change in manufacturer? A bogner sounds like a good plan though!
  16. Allegedly there was no speeding up or rewinding involved in the making of this scene, and every single one of those kicks and punches made contact with the actors. Surprisingly, no indians were hurt in the making of the footage.
  17. www.myspace.com/mymindsweapon "Silhouettes Of Enemies". Please check it out. At just over 2 minutes, it's the shortest song we've ever written but is crammed full of all kinds of goodies Our other new one is only available for download now, but is of a higher quality as a result.
  18. only 5 days left to stream the song so get downloading... Tour is going well. (i.e. bump)
  19. Strung Out - Blackhawks Over Los Angeles. I actually can't think of any other new albums I have bought this year, since The Wildhearts was sold out everywhere. Heather (not Dan)
  20. As a one off occasion when you've just achieved some of the proudest things in your life after working on it for the last however long...then, yes. You don't have to read them, and if it angers you that much then you probably should complain via myspace, delete us friends list or do something else that is equally gay as this conversion. Like edgar graham says, there are far more things worth caring or not caring about.
  21. Why? Half the people on myspace post 5 bulletins an hour a few times a day, EVERY day, saying shit like "Just bought the OC", "'I'm bored", "I'm off to bed now", "my mum won't let me go to the MCR gig " I don't know why you think that is worth mentioning on this site, other than to have a minor dig. Cheers Chris! The last deal we had fell through as Highcroft records no longer exists due to personal reasons of Rob's. Unfortunate for him, but we have done all right for ourselves as Basick are a wicked label!
  22. shit... cheers for letting me know! You can get it from here easier I think: indiestore.com - Basick Records - Home
  23. Hello everyone, We are delighted to announce that we have just signed to reading-based Basick records, home to such bands as Fell Silent and The Abner. We recently recorded our debut album, "The Carrion Sky" which will have 9 tracks and be available later this year through HMV, amazon.com etc! We produced and engineered the album ourselves, and it was mixed and mastered by Dan Weller and Justin Hill of SikTh fame. We currently have our new download-only single, "The Killing Horizon" available at: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr, it only costs 79p so would be great if all you lovely people could indulge... . Failing that, it is available for streaming at our myspace site (www.myspace.com/mymindsweapon) for the next two weeks only, whilst we're on tour across the UK.
