  1. I can't wait. I thought 'Exile..' was an incredible record.
  2. I'm sure it'll be amazing. Not so amazing that they need 8 different myspace pages though: www.myspace.com/bastardsquad www.myspace.com/666bastardsquad www.myspace.com/abastardsquad www.myspace.com/bastardsquad1 www.myspace.com/bastardsquadaus www.myspace.com/eso9 www.myspace.com/138133993 www.myspace.com/bastardsquadcambridge
  3. Alright chappies! I'd say most noticably (in my opinion, of course) the song is a little long and repetative for 6 minutes (i.e. I'd say sections could be repeated less, or have 2 or 4 bars instead of 4 or 8). Takes quite a while 'til the vocals come in. Drums sound fine to me. Not bad in terms of actual sound, although I'll let the other drummers decide how well they're actually played... Perhaps a touch out of time in places, although I think that's the guitars as well. Cool time change when it gets faster around 1:40 and 2:50 (?), and the solo is pretty cool too - straight out of the kill 'em all/lightning-era hammett school. I'd say the thing that makes the song 'sloppiest' is the two rhythm guitars - not the individual playing, which isn't bad - but the overall togetherness. They seem to go out of phase with each other in quite a lot of places, especially the start, so I guess working on rhythm and strumming patterns together would be my advice/criticism regarding that. guitar tone isn't bad, although perhaps a little thin. Maybe more bass guitar is needed in the mix as well? I love tony's vocals. They're great.* Although they are pretty generic "cookie monster" death metal vocals, they so remind me of a mixture of very early Nick Holmes (paradise lost) and Karl Willetts from Bolt Thrower, which of course is a good thing. *EDIT: just noticed, that should perhaps read "I love tony's vocals. They're grrrrrrrreat!")
  4. One tempo, one time signature and one key/mode over 3 and a half minutes does not an interesting piece of 'compostion' make. You're 19 Years Old, and a solo bass player and composer from Aberdeen. You like Grind, Punk, Jazz, Classical, Crust and all shite in between. You play in two grind/crust bands, Dis-ease and fuctoff and you like girls with: Piercings Tattoos Dreads crusty minges What do I win?
  5. Unless they had two on the subject, I presume you mean high speed dirt? Holy Wars and Rust In Peace... Polaris were 'political' songs and they are both amazing! But yeah, for all these americans that bang on about how rubbish the USA and it's goverment is - I bet you every one of them would still rather live in the states than anywhere else in the world...
  6. Saw this in aberdeen.... enjoyed clearer the sky although they would admit themselves it wasn't one of their better sets. Shaped by fate were pretty good. Brutal, tight, and awesome live performance but like medichi says - a bit generic. They seemed like they played for ages... Becoming the archytype. More like becoming the worst pile of irritating shit imaginable. The Chariot....hmmm. I just don't get this band I'm afraid. They sounded decent enough and rocked out a fair bit, but there wasn't a single note played or sung that I thought was necessary. And aesthetics alone doesn't make for an enjoyable set, for me. Maybe you need to know the songs? Cos there didn't seem to be any 'songs' as such, at least to my ears... just seemed like norma jean but without any good songs/riffs/anything.

    CD sale.

it would have taken me at least 10,000 days to get it.
  8. The tunes are pretty wicked! Obviously Autopsy are a reference point for you guys, but it reminds me of Clandestine/left hand path-era Entombed. P.S. Like the logo too hahaha, just got that. Where is Betty Swollocks?

Done the "math"? What is this, the irritating-american-high-school forum? It's "mathS" You silly sausage.

    1 CD box = 10 x 141 x 124mm = 174840 cubic mm (which is roughly 175 cubic centimetres). 175 x 5 CDs = 875 cubic centimetres, total volume. Of course, I haven't done higher maths in over 8 years so I could be wrong....

that is 875 cubic centimetres* of genius that you're giving away there. Unless they have all been burned to a hardrive you should definitely reconsider... * yes, I did the maths
  12. To be fair, that is a completely irrelevant point - especially as SoM are nowhere near the same subgenre of metal as beneath the massacre. Leave the tech-death-grind to the french canadians, they do it miles better than anyone else anyway.
  13. Boring. Go and pretend to listen to some strauss and tchaikovsky mr. thinks-he-is-a-composer.
  14. Sepultuna Prawntera Gerri Halibut Cod Forbid/Lamb Of Cod/Eyehatecod etc etc etc Eel Big Fish Stickleback ...and so forth!
  15. I actually have my dream set-up. I'm not gonna list every piece of equipment I own for the sake of it - but here is the important stuff: TONE.
  16. Didn't dimebag use solid state Randall Warhead amps for years before switching to Krank (or something like that) later on his life?
  17. Been an expensive but worthwhile year for me, gear-wise. Guitar leads etc aside, my 3 main purchases have been, in order: - Blackmachine custom guitar - Mesa recto cab - Roland Fantom XA synth (amazing piece of kit!)
  18. The first time we played the SECC, we'd just finished our set and were unloading our gear off stage. I was carrying my brand new Diezel amp (which had just finished it's first gig, and weighs about 6 stone) and fell offstage holding it. The stage is about 6 - 7 feet high, and I fell straight on to my back with my amp head landing on my chest, before it bounced off me and onto the floor. I had minor shock but VERY fortunately no broken bones, although I was shitting myself that my amp was gonna be fucked - which luckily it wasn't. I didn't feel any real pain though until after about 20 minutes when the adrenaline wore off. Then it started to hurt pretty badly. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the rest of the night that much. Other than that, the most comical thing i can remember was the last date of the Aconite Thrill, Cryforsilence, MMw tour in Cardiff. Basically through all the bands sets, each band drank Jagermeister on stage with whoever was playing at the time, and then ended up throwing stuff at the band that was then playing. This started off with bananas, but ended up with beer/crisps/apples/cardboard boxes etc etc. When aconite thrill eventually took to the stage, the stage itself was a crisp-y and beer-y slippery mess and they got bombarded with everything at the cryforsilence/mmw disposal for the entire duration of their set. The place was ruined.
  19. I got told all of them from my boss... except the last one which is the best actually! Classic stuff.
  20. I agree with every part of that... other than that I wouldn't say Puppets is batter produced than the black album, even by todays super-polished standards the black album has an INCREDIBLE sound. The guitar tone, the layering, best snare sound (ever?) all within the most accessible and catchy yet heavy songs. I'm not saying it's a better album than puppets, but on production stakes I'd say it definitely is. Justice is my favourite album too... who needs bass with that guitar tone?!
  21. regardless of Lars' ability on drums, lets not forget he has co-written EVERY metallica song from Kill Em All Through to the black album (i.e. their glory period) except for Motorbreath, which is possibly a better accolade than ANY metal drummer on the planet. Sure there are a thousand better technical drummer's out there with various levels of profiles, but at the end of the day, it's the SONGS that make a band worth listening to. And '...Justice For All' and the black album were also fucking brilliant records, and they were a better live band in that era than they ever had been before. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and all that, but I think anyone who reckons they got "shit" after Puppets is suffering from a little bit of trying-hard-to-be-cool.
  22. Who? (rofl) I like Jamez hatfiled and dayve mustanei to be honest.
  23. I would comment more on this thread, but the above post is superb and covers pretty much everything. Playing outside aberdeen is a great experience and also a good laugh - if you get on with your fellow bandmates that is. I also actually really enjoy the travelling to be honest, which is handy as we've been as stupid as to play in Torquay and Folkestone (kent) in a single weekend! Most of us hold down regular jobs as well, so we can play close Scottish gigs during the week, and then the further away ones at weekends or during holidays. Working and being in a band don't really go hand in hand, but it does mean we can afford decent equipment, eat decent food and not worry about being skint all the time - which is great for peace of mind.
