  4. hey guys

this week at the dirty hearts club....

we have the wry wit and songwriting skills of Glasgows DUMB INSTRUMENT and the equally skillful playing/songwriting talentthat is Steve from STANLEY plaing a rare solo set.

    heres the spiel....

    DUMB INSTRUMENT

    11.15pm - 11.45pm

Dumb Instrument is the brainchild of composer and lyricist Tom Murray and are impossible to pigeonhole into one particular genre although "Jakey rock" would be a decent attempt. Its "all about the lyrics" (Daily Record 16/12/05) with Dumb Instrument and these are enriched with simple yet poignant accompaniment from piano, fiddle and bass.

The songs are tinged with melancholy, like life, but are by no means downbeat because they often have a comedy twist. The band formed immediately prior to the May 2006 T break showcase event at Edinburgh's Liquid room and earned great reviews being described as "a breath of fresh air" (Fiona Reid) by T break journalists.

Since then the band has appeared at Glasgow's Classic Grand venue as part of BBC2's The Music Show battle of the bands. Since being a featured artist at King Tut's 'Your Sound' in December 2006 the band has appeared at the venue supporting Unkle Bob and are pleased to announce their return to the venue in May of 2007 supporting renowned folk star Rory Mcleod.

The band were fortunate enough to be signed by Hackpen Records (www.hackpenrecords.co.uk) in Dec of 2006 and released their first single 'Songs Ya Bass Vol I' on March 22nd with their debut album to follow in early summer.

    ACTRESS HANDS

Actress Hands, based in Brighton (UK), formed in the summer of 2002 and have recorded 3 CDR-only albums up to this point of writing (spring 2007).

They've oft found themselves compared to My Bloody Valentine, early-70s Beach Boys, Teenage Fanclub - all that stuff...

Signing to Life Is Easy Records earlier this year, they've recently toured in support of The Walkmen, British Sea Power, Dinosaur Jr and The Pipettes.

They've released 3 singles so far; 'Snack Horse' (May 2006), 'Half An Hour' (Oct 2006) and 'Why The Sale?' (split 7" with Electric Soft Parade, Nov 2006).

Actress Hands' new album 'Show Madelaine' has just been recorded at Truck Studio in Oxfordshire. The Actress Hands sound has been lovingly exaggerated on this LP that contains 10 new songs of hard rock jangle.

The title refers to the inevitibility of behavioural commitment and standardisation and was produced by Alex White during the autumn/winter of last year. She's due for release in June this year, with a preceding single 'Come The Summer Days' and a full UK tour during April and May.

LE RENO AMPS AND LORENZO NEED NO INTRODUCTION SO COME ON AND HEAD DOWN!

  9. we (the little kicks) were very pleasantly surprised to hear we had won / tied the indie award with copy ha ho so thanks for voting for us, i love the ha ho so i do and i voted for em so big ups to them also!

had i not been djing in tunnels id have been in attendance and the rest of the kicks were out on fri so they were nursing hangovers and indisposed too, i feel bad for not supporting the fudge awards ( we were playing elsewhere last year and missed winning best indie then too) and i will make an effort to go to more fudge gigs in future. we played a gig for bri last week and hes a gentleman and a scholar.

if its any consolation, town was pretty dead on saturday i thought, i played accoustic to an empty drummonds at ten pm saturday (drummonds is never empty on a saturday!) and then DJed to a fairly quiet tunnels ( although got busy at 1am) so i would say the fudge guys shouldnt be too hard on themselves!

its nearly payday after all and everyones skint!

and im gutted i missed biz dj set!

but i hope that everyone there had a good time and thats the main thing, well done to the other bands particularly karrta and panda eyes

    x
