New York Doll (12A)

NEW YORK DOLL relates the meteoric rise, resounding fall, and recent all-too-brief resurrection of the seminal New York glam-rock-punk band, the New York Dolls, but it is foremost a story about the bands amazing bassist, Arthur 'Killer' Kane. Dubbed the only living rocknroll statue for his lack of stage presence, Kane literally fell into obscurity after the band split, only to re-emerge here as a 55-year-old member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, riding the bus each day to volunteer in LAs Mormon Family History Centre. Whitelys likeable and sympathetic portrayal of Kane, and his subsequent reunion with the Dolls to play in Morrisseys London Meltdown festival, is a poignant tribute to one of punks most influential and much missed bands.
