The Kernel Loaf
Not sure if there are many import gaming fans on here or not, but for those who are interested, one of the biggest sites for import games hardware and software has been shut down due to lawsuits from Sony.Lik-Sang.com out of business due to multiple S*ny lawsuitsFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASESpokesman: Pascal Clarysse (Pascal@Lik-Sang.com)Web Site: http://www.lik-sang.comHong Kong' date=' October 24th of 2006 - Lik-Sang.com, the popular gaming retailerfrom Hong Kong, has today announced that it is forced to close down due tomultiple legal actions brought against it by S*ny Computer EntertainmentEurope Limited and S*ny Computer Entertainment Inc. S*ny claimed thatLik-Sang infringed its trade marks, copyright and registered design rightsby selling S*ny PSP consoles from Asia to European customers, and haverecently obtained a judgment in the High Court of London (England) renderingLik-Sang's sales of PSP consoles unlawful. As of today, Lik-Sang.com will not be in the position to accept any neworders and will cancel and refund all existing orders that have already beenplaced. Furthermore, Lik-Sang is working closely with banks and PayPal torefund any store credits held by the company, and the customer supportdepartment is taking care of any open transactions such as pending RMAs orrepairs and shipping related matters. The staff of Lik-Sang will make surethat nobody will get hurt in the crossfire of this ordeal.A S*ny spokesperson declined to comment directly on the lawsuit againstLik-Sang, but recently went on to tell Gamesindustry.biz that "ultimately,we're trying to protect consumers from being sold hardware that does notconform to strict EU or UK consumer safety standards, due to voltage supplydifferences et cetera; is not - in PS3's case - backwards compatible witheither PS1 or PS2 software; will not play European Blu-Ray movies or DVDs;and will not be covered by warranty".Lik Sang strongly disagrees with S*ny's opinion that their customers needthis kind of protection and pointed out that PSP consoles shipped fromLik-Sang contained genuine S*ny 100V-240V AC Adapters that carry CE andother safety marks and are compatible world wide. All PSP consoles were inconformity with all EU and UK consumer safety regulations.Furthermore, S*ny have failed to disclose to the London High Court that notonly the world wide gaming community in more than 100 countries relied onLik-Sang for their gaming needs, but also S*ny Europe's very own topdirectors repeatedly got their S*ny PSP hard or software imports in nicelypacked Lik-Sang parcels with free Lik-Sang Mugs or Lik-Sang Badge Holders, starting just two days after Japan's official release, as early as 14th ofDecember 2004 (more than nine months earlier than the legal action). Thelist of PSP related S*ny Europe orders reads like the who's who of thevideogames industry, and includes Ray Maguire (Managing Director, S*nyComputer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Alan Duncan (UK Marketing Director, S*nyComputer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Chris Sorrell (Creative Director, S*nyComputer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Rob Parkin (Development Director, S*nyComputer Entertainment Europe Limited), just to name a few."Today is S*ny Europe victory about PSP, tomorrow is S*ny Europe's ongoingpressure about PlayStation 3. With this precedent set, next week couldalready be the stage for complaints from S*ny America about the same thing,or from other console manufacturers about other consoles to other regions,or even from any publisher about any specific software title to any countrythey don't see fit. It's the beginning of the end... of the World as we knowit", stated Pascal Clarysse, formerly known as the Marketing Manager ofLik-Sang.com."Blame it on S*ny. That's the latest dark spot in their shameful trackrecord as gaming industry leader. The Empire finally 'won', few dominatingretailers from the UK probably will rejoice the news, but everybody else inthe gaming world lost something today."[/quote']Safety standards my arse. Cloud
It's a fucking joke, I read it earlier on. The saddest thing is that Lik Sang were fantastic for getting hold of all sorts, not just imported consoles - and now they're gone.Fuck you Sony, I won't be buying a PS3. Skull Commander
I post of an import gaming forum, and it would be a major understatement to say that Sony has pissed off loads of people. The casuals will still buy the PS3 but I think that the hardcore are going to stage a boycott or something!

I have seen quite a few members on gaming forums with signatures saying that they are now boycotting the company etc.I have always hated Sony, but call me a hipocrite if you will, I have a PS2 merely because it has the majority of games I want to play (mainly Western RPGs) compared to the Gamecube and XBox. Their arrogance will be the downfall of them.

It took Kingdom Hearts II over 10 months to be released here from it's initial release in Japan, and I have yet to hear them announcing when Xenosaga episode 3 is coming out. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled the release of it, because the last installment didn't sell too well in Europe. Pity, because it's actually a damn good RPG.ah well' date=' i'd rather have a wii anyway.[/quote']Don't we all, but if it was released in Japan prior to Europe you could have actually bought one months before it was released from Lik-Sang.com.I am just wondering if Play-Asia is next, or Sony just chose to make an example of the easy targets like a website because they don't have the balls to tackle significant profit-losing problems (well, to them it is) such as the massive bootleg/pirate DVD industry in East Asia. They will pick the fights they can win, even the small ones, dumb as it is. Guest Gasss
I bought most of my DS games from Lik-Sang. This is bad news, it sets a precedent that could end the import gaming market. By the sound of Sony's plans to "imprint" game copies to individual consoles, they are seeking to destroy the pre-owned market next. They can stick the Cell up their own arse. rune
sony close lik sanghttp://www.lik-sang.com/Fuck you sony, they are so far out of touch with the rest of the world. It's begining. Who will be next? Ebay? Sony's eula laws are a joke only implimented to further their greed.Looks like people will not have freedom of choice to buy what they want anymore. I will never buy sony again. From sony's eula laws and the willfull knowledge of putting exploits on their cd's it's a step too far. BOYCOTT SONY
Cloud
As I understand it, it isn't Sony's EULA that's the problem - it's linked to the EU laws on grey imports, so essentially, Sony were simply using the law to suit themselves.Sony must be absolutely terrified about how the PS3 is going to do if they're desperate to stop people getting hold of a console before the release date. Also thought their eula stated that it was illegal to take a sony product from one country to another? Even if you own a psp and wanted to take it and your games abroad on holiday you could be held accountable by sony?LOL what a joke company
