Jaaakkkeee
I watched the Swedish verison of the same film at the weekend and was pretty impressed. Good tension throughout, really dark, thought both Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist were great and had good chemistry. Felt at times that the graphic sexual violence was a little "shocking for the sake of it" and didn't do much to add to the substance of the film, but hey-ho. Also thought that the Bond-villain style confession of the antagonist and the resulting car chase scene were fairly cheesy, but all in all a decent watch. I'd imagined that the remake might be a little too Hollywood Action Movie and the violence a little too gratuitous, but I'm glad to hear otherwise.I get what you mean by the bond-villian thing. I never really thought about that until now. I guess the direction takes focus away from it beinga confession, and more of a "this is what I've done before, so just imagine what I'm going to do to you and your little investigator girlfriend". The car chase wasn't too long in the new one and there wasn't any massive hollywood stunts. I thought, although shocking, the rape scene was done so well that it was right to the point of needing to look away without it being saw-style shock tactics.David Fincher is an amazing director and although I've heard the Swedish version is better I think I'd be daft to believe the hype. girl anachronism
Never Let Me GoStory of cloned humans raised to "donate" organs to their "originals" when they're old enough. Set in a pretty idyllic English countryside backdrop and starring Keira Knightly, Carey Mulligan and some guy who goes through the entire film with this perpetual expression on his face like he's just been given a very difficult sum to do.They're all friends at school together, Kath (Mulligan) falls for Tommy (Sum Boy/Andrew Garfield) and instead, Ruth (Knightly), gets off with him, keeping Kath away from him. They soon realise their fate and as they reach adulthood, they begin to look for ways of getting a deferral from their first donations (rumour has it that if you can prove you are in love, then you may be given a few years with your significant other). I won't ruin the rest of the film.Mulligan is pretty great in it, and Keira plays the "bitch that comes good at the end" part quite well. Mr Hardsums' character however, he just really irritated me, I imagine I'd be a pretty pathetic wet blanket if I had to donate all my vital organs too, but Jesus, what a twonk. Interesting concept, totally jarred with the utopian surroundings, but that totally worked. Decent watch all in all, touched a nerve at points. Need to watch a cheerful film soon!7/
Stroopy121
Never Let Me Go 7/10Tommy is a much MUCH more likable character in the book. He comes across more as a frustrated artist that miserable prat.xx
Jaaakkkeee
Saw the end of Eight Below the other night. That one with the bad actor from Fast And Furious and all the doggies? Half was spent going "Awww doooooogggggggggsssssssssss". The other half going "oh no, it's hurt, please don't let it die. If it dies I'll kill myself. If that dog dies right now I will throw the tv out the window and jump out after it" Then ended in a "two other dogs died? Well I didnt' see them in the film, I didn't get emotionally attached so that's okay."The one from Fast and Furious (Paul Walker! Thanks wikipedia!) is simply one of the worst actors in the world. And if it weren't for beautiful husky dogs taking on a killer seal I wouldn't have stuck with it. They were so cute. It could have been done a lot better too. As a film. If it wasn't disney, it wouldn't be so cheesy. the bits with the dogs were good though. Really good. Better than the dog actors in 101 dalmations. Soda Jerk
I watched the Simpsons film last night. Ive only ever seen it once, the day it came out in the cinema. It had more good jokes than I originally remember, and the bad guy is the same voice as Hank Scorpio. The film would have been better if the bad guy was actually Hank Scorpio. Not enough Milhouse or Chief wiggum, so 5 outta 10.

Oh, I think Jason Statham and any of the tossers out of the "Twilight" movies could give him a run for his money in the Shite Actor stakes. kirsten
EraserheadGoing through a bit of a David Lynch thing at the moment. I've only seen this once before, when I was really really young (actually, I've just remembered a few other things I saw at far too young an age, what the hell were my parents thinking?!). I think we rented it on video at the same time as we got Mars Attacks! - both films I never finished watching because I was too scared and decided I hated them. So, I chose to give Eraserhead another shot now that I am older and appreciate Lynch's bizarre brain. It's just batshit mental, I can't even tell if I liked it or not. I'm just thankful it's not as long as his other films, because I'm not sure I could handle two hours of mutant babies crying and the lady in the radiator. I think this would make a kick-ass short film, though. His short films are ace and sort of similar in the way they make you feel uneasy throughout. Chris
127 HoursDanny Boyle makes very good films. The gruesome bit that everyone knows about wasn't quite as bad to watch as I feared it would be and it only lasts for a couple of minutes. The rest of the film is a harrowing and extremely moving. I never properly cry at films but if I'm going to get something in my eye it's usually at emotional happy endings for some reason rather than sad moments. I must have had a massive bit of grit in my eye at the end of this film, despite knowing well in advance what the outcome was as Aron Ralston obviously survived to tell the tale in the first place and was well publicised when the film was released. I guess a lot of that has to do with James Franco's amazing performance.Seriously if you've been thinking about watching this film but are put off by the fuss the press made about one scene which is a bit bloody then please ignore that as you're missing out on something excellent. Captain America
I went to the cinema twice at the weekend.Saw the Girl with the dragon tattoo first.Really enjoyed it, Daniel Craig was pretty solid and Rooney Mara was awesome. I hadn't read the book but my Dad and brother had and they said it stuck pretty well with it (obviously couldnt go into the detail of the investigation like the book did). Also Rooney Mara is fucking hot in it. 'Dem dodes.Saw The Grey after that. Was expecting Liam Neeson to just punch some wolves for 90 minutes. Was pleasantly surprised, it's a really bleak, realistic survival film. It is not an all out action film like the advert makes out. Liam Neeson is very good.
Moose
I Just Couldn’t be Your Woman – Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd in a silly rom-com from the makers of Clueless. The start a romance after meeting at work, but she’s in her mid-40s and he’s only in his late-20s. Carefree frivolities and nice bits that make you smile ensue. Its probably technically a terrible movie, but it made me smile on a Sunday night before work, with a stinking hangover.
Chris
Super 8Felt like a classic Spielberg movie for large parts of it, which was pretty much what I expected of it. The kids are great while most of the adults are pretty annoying. Overall a pretty great family adventure film. I was going to say it would be interesting to see what JJ Abrams could do without aliens some day but after looking him up apparently he directed the pretty decent comedy Morning Glory. So that's already been answered then.
Stroopy121
Persepolis Animated movie about an Iranian girl raised during the Gulf war. Powerful. 9/10Candy Heath Ledger gets his girlfriend hooked on smack and it fucks their lives up. Good, but a bit too long IMHO. Cut 20 minutes out of the broody, character deep in thought, scenes and you'd have a winner. 7/10 The Machinist Christian Bale is going crazy. Rather Fight-Club-esque which is always a good thing. Bale is the man. 9/10Sleeper Woody Allen being Woody Allen. Again, not his best, but not bad! 7/10The Fighter I love Tom Hardy. He's fucking great. Expected this to be shit, but was gobsmacked by how much I enjoyed it. The film avoids having a simple, black and white, this is your protagonist, you like him. This is the antagonist, boo-urns. Fucking excellent. Will date infinitely better than Rocky. 10/10Inception Very fantastical storyline, but the film holds its internal logic really well. Takes itself too seriously and becomes pretty stupid and irritating at around the final third. A friend described this by saying "Imagine how much better it would be if it looked like ANYONE involved int he project was having fun..?". So, so close to being amazing but it barrelled downhill once I saw what the end goal of their work was, etc..etc.. 6/10xx

It looks amazing tho its all shot really well, but i thought the story was a bit poor, especially the adults part.
Paranoid Android
Monsters - stolen from imdbSix years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life form began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain "the creatures"...... Our story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border. It was pretty good although I felt it maybe fell just a little short of really pulling off what it was trying to achieve, which is basically a mix of Lost in Translation and Alien. Definitely worth a watch. 7.5/10Role Models - Another silly comedy from all those people who are in all the other silly comedies. Does what it says on the tin basically. I didn't mind talking through it at times and I did laugh at quite a few moments. 6/
Gypsum_Fantastic
The Woman in Black, not a bad little ghost story as a stand alone film, i felt like a lot of the changes from the book were not needed and really pissed me off though. Stroopy121
The King's PeachNot a fucking peach in sight. Some shit about stuttering.Cracking performance from Colin Firth. Given my general disdain for the monarchy, he did an unbeliebvable job making me give a shit about his character. At times you genuinely find yourself trying to finish his sentences. Superbly played, great supporting cast and despite (IMHO) the dull storyline - Duke of York can't speak publicly, so he gets elocution lessons and gets a bit better by the time he becomes King - it's a really enjoyable watch.9/10xx
KarmaTsunami
My girlfriend got me the film Eulogy as part of my Valentine's Day present (which consisted of movies and popcorn) since it's her favourite film and I've never heard of it.It's so fucking good you guys. Black comedy, with emphasis on the comedy. It's about a dysfunctional family who all arrive at their parents/grandparents house after the head of the family dies to arrange/attend his funeral. It's got Hank Azaria, Ray Romano, Famke Jansen and Zooey Deschanel in it as well as a small part played by Rip Torn. I'm probably not doing it justice, you should just go and look it up on imdb or add it to your lovefilm list or something. 8/

Chris
28 Weeks LaterNot as good as 28 Days Later. I wanted the kid to get eaten.SubmarineHugely enjoyable film, although not as light a comedy as I thought it was going to be. Lots of great moments in it and a brilliant performance from the guy that played Oliver and the other leads. Only sour note was Paddy Considine's character. Too over the top even for a characature of the era.
