Flights
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-hardcore The same happened to the term emo. Went from desrcibing ace bands like Rites of Spring and Sunny Day Real Estate to describing Fall Out Boy.
Moose
I always say Carson Wells are "post hardcore" when asked what we're like, purely because we sound the most like bands that are also described as "post hardcore." Any genre that starts with "post" doesn't have terribly much meaning.

Fuck, I could have slowly moulded you all in to a Minor Threat cover band!!!
The Milner
OMGZ WE'RE SO POSTHARDCORE WE'RE PREHARDCORE!!!!I hate these silly genre's, its just rock music, but with less thought put into it.( not aimed at moose btw)
Soda Jerk
That Wikipage says that Silverstein and Funeral for a Friend are post-hardcore. I thought they just came under the "shite metal" umbrella? Is there a wikipedia page for that?
The Milner
If there isnt, you should write one, i would love to read a wiki page on shite metal written by you!!
Moose
It isn't just rock music though, you do need to be a bit more descriptive. If someone says they play in a rock band, I just immediately assume they sound like they're thrying to be Foo Fighters.

I know when i start a rock band Dave Grohl is the first thing that comes to mind, i refuse to believe anyone is different to me in that respect.Seriously tho, it is must rock music, but with different chords and tunnings and usually a noise where a singer would be. There are so many genre's and sub genre's and sub sub genre's now a days, what happened to just calling yourself a rock band putting on a rock show, falling in love with a girl. Soda Jerk
Genres are stupid. The only prefixes that are important are "loud" "fast" "slow" and "female fronted".

Jaaakkkeee
the thing is, when you make something that sounds different, you have to name it different. and now that the most obvious ones are gone, like punk, metal, pop, rap. you have to get creative. keeno
That Wikipage says that Silverstein and Funeral for a Friend are post-hardcore. I thought they just came under the "shite metal" umbrella? Is there a wikipedia page for that?Neither of them are metal bands! They do have some stuff full of screaming but not that much. Don't really like Silverstein but I will defend FFAF. A couple of duff albums but their first and most recent were great. Welcome Home Armageddon has a couple of songs that aren't far off being thrash though. Not metal and closer to the original meaning of post hardcore than a lot of todays fringebreakdownautotunecore bands. also not metal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg8SAFlNKBc Those four words sum my band.Metal seems to be the worst for silly genre names though. They sound nothing like. It is one of the few genres where you REALLY need genres. Some are daft but I think they are useful for knowing what you are listening to. If it's mathcore you know it's gonna have lots of dissonance and time signature changes, if it's thrash you know it's gonna be fast with the triplet 'galloping' riffs etc. I don't mind djent as a term, onomatopoeias are ace

People seem to get afa carried away with all this sub genre pish these days when posting about their band on facebook. It's only a fairly recent thing all this mental sub-genres. It just needs to stop.

Soda Jerk
I hear no post-hardcore in Funeral for a Friend. They've gone a bit 'softer' these days, but some of the early stuff was full on metal riffing with double kick and screaming and whatnot. Post-hardcore should never involve a metal riff, or even a scream. Maybe an Ian Mackaye-like yell at the most. You can only scream if you're Guy Picciotto climbing through a basketball hoop and punching yourself in the head.

I couldn't give a shit if it's europop or classic pop or whatever and I don't expect a non metal fan to care about the subgenres of metal. I still think they are a great idea for discovering similar bands to ones you already like.

Funeral for a friend were/are metal. I'm not dissing sub genres. Just the stupid names they have. Djent? Djent? what the fuck does that even mean? Looks the first name of a 1930's gypsy pianist. Crazy.
