Promoters - they're a weird bunch...

....why agree to give you a gig, then dissappear off the face of the planet?

Or agree to give you a gig, then turn around and say: "we have a new policy in operation regarding booking gigs, we can no longer afford to issue gigs on the promise of a turnout , so now we ask bands to buy tickets and sell them in advance of the show"

All well and good if you stay in the city where the gig is, but it's difficult to sell tickets for a show 400 miles away. I weep, and question the point of bothering anymore.

sounds like ''pay to play'' to me and all bands should collectively oppose it to make the promoters stop doing it.....its only the lazy promoters who do it.....so you do their job for them and take all the risk....why bother indeed.......or if you do bother, then why have a promoter at all.....my policy is to just avoid such venues/scams.....fortunately some proper venues/promoters do still exist
